I know there are quite a few hoops fans on here, so I guess it is pleasing for us to hear there is apparantly some discussions going on for Channel 9 to show some NBL action this year. How much, I'm not sure, but at least a FTA station is showing some interest. Even a half hour show a week would be great.

I'll have new-found respect for Eddie (I'm already a big fan of his) and Rick Burton if this happens.

I remember the days in the early 90's, where they were totally filling out the Melb Tennis Centre, especially in the big rivalry days of the Tigers and Magic / Titans.

to make it work 9 would have to take one game a week and turn it into a huge event. say, wednesday night basketball. make the nbl fixture the best game on that night and promote like buggary. would require a similiar fixturing system like the nrl where game dates are decided on about one month in advance.

Wednesday nights are already taken up by foxtel and so are saturday nights, im guessing the only games they could do is a fri or sun game. there is no doubt basketball in this country needs a huge lift and FTA coverage would certainly provide this lift also the only sport shown in summer when ball is being played would be cricket so it must come into some serious consideration...

Thats some great news guys, basbetball was a hit for a while in the early 90s as already mentioned but as soon as they took it off the air it went down hill very fast.

You dont see any NBL and no NBA at all on free to air no more, I used to love watching the NBA highlights and the top 10 plays of the week each week.

Anyway would love to see some NBL back on free to air.

Anyone found anymore news on this about the discussions?

Around 92-96 basketball was huge - I used to play it as a kid and it was very popular. The Tigers had great attendance figures over here.

With AFL becoming like basketball most kids will see similarities between the games and become fans Wink
